Investment casting, also known as precision casting, is a manufacturing process where molten metal is poured into a ceramic mold to create highly accurate and complex parts.
It is widely applied in aerospace, automotive, medical devices, energy, and industrial machinery industries where high precision and excellent surface finish are required.
Wax Injection
Molten wax is injected into a precision mold to form wax patterns, which replicate the final product’s shape.
Wax Pattern Assembly
The wax patterns are carefully trimmed and assembled onto a central wax runner, forming a “tree” structure.
Shell Building
The wax assembly is repeatedly dipped in ceramic slurry and coated with sand, then dried to form a strong ceramic shell.
Dewaxing
The wax inside the ceramic shell is melted and removed, leaving a hollow mold cavity.
Metal Melting & Pouring
The selected alloy is melted at high temperature and poured into the ceramic mold.
Shell Removal
Once solidified, the ceramic shell is broken away to release the cast metal parts.
Gate Cutting & Grinding
The parts are separated from the casting tree and excess material is removed.
Surface Finishing
The castings undergo processes such as shot blasting, grinding, straightening, and sandblasting to achieve the required surface quality and dimensional accuracy.
High Dimensional Precision – Tolerances up to CT4–CT6.
Superior Surface Finish – Roughness Ra 1.6–6.3 μm.
Material Versatility – Stainless steel, carbon steel and more.
Complex Design Capability – Ideal for shapes difficult to machine.
Cost Efficiency – Less material waste, suitable for small to medium production runs.
Metal Pouring Temperature – Influences mold filling and material properties.
Shell Strength & Permeability – Determines surface smoothness and accuracy.
Cooling Rate – Affects grain structure and mechanical strength.
Post-Treatment – Heat treatment and machining enhance final performance.
